This option is available from the Rally Spot... not quite sure if this just refers to if you're under seige, your troops will go out to protect your resources outside the town walls? Anyone know for sure?

If the gate is open your troops from inside will come out and fight instead of your defensive stuff from the walls. If you loyalty is lowered to 15% the gates will automaticly open. Thats what I've heard.
