... when you lose units in combat, 10% are available to heal in your medic camp. Always seems to be 10%.

Each 5 points in your hero's attack ability = 1 second off production time for units. Similar for Politics and Intelligence with whatever they affect in terms of building speed, but I think the difference is a bit more.

I think the attack stat takes away percentage of training time, not staticly locked to seconds.
For example, switching from 29 attack hero to 139 brought my training time for ballista down from 20 minutes per unit to 12 minutes.
